About Pissouri
Pissouri has two distinct communities, Pissouri Village and Pissouri Beach
Pissouri Village
...is a lively Cypriot Village with stunning views over the Troodos Mountains and the coast. The Village is increasingly popular with tourists but has managed to maintain its Cypriot character. Pissouri is a wine making area and the lower slopes of the village, towards the beach are clothed in vineyards.
You will find all that you need during you holiday in the Village with several shops including supermarkets, butcher and gift shops carrying a wide range of food, drinks and other goods. There are three banks in the village with ATM facilities.
In and around the paved Village square, a number of bars and restaurants are open from dawn through until late night for you to enjoy - they are all good, serving superb food and drink and offering excellent friendly service.
In the square itself the Pissouri Taverna, the Symposium and the Vraka Taverna hold pride of place. During the summer every Wednesday and on some Saturdays, there is a 'Cyprus night' with traditional dancing and music.
All the restaurants spill out onto the square and booking is essential!!! Visitors and locals alike join in the fun of Cyprus nights and the entertainment is first class.
In the streets leading off the square, you will find some friendly bars where you can enjoy a drink and watch the world go by and some excellent Cypriot take-aways and pancake stalls.
The views from Pissouri Village and its surroundings are spectacular. It is set on the eastern slopes of the ridge reaching the sea at Cape Aspro, about 500 feet high on average - the highest point on the ridge is about 800 feet. To the East it is possible to see the countryside and the shore line all the way to Limassol and even beyond, and to the north the whole of the Troodos range, including Mount Olympus, at more than 6000 ft, the highest mountain on the island.
Pissouri is well placed for you to explore Cyprus. The Village lies between Paphos and Limmasol and the motorway means that you can reach either of these towns in around twenty minutes. Also, the Trooodos Mountains are easily accessible by road from the Village
Pissouri Beach
Pissouri Beach is only a five minute drive from the Village and is a superb blue flag beach with a number of excellent tavernas. including Yialis fish restaurant and the Symposium - sister to the one in the Village square.
Here, you will find some supermarkets, shops, two banks, some apartments and one hotel. It is not an overdeveloped resort and, like the Village, this part of Pissouri has retained its essentially Cypriot atmosphere.
The beach itself is maintained to a high standard and is never overcrowded. It is clean, safe, partly sandy and partly shingle. We like to go down to the beach in the afternoons and our children spend hours playing in the golden sand, paddling and pouring buckets of cold seawater on us when we least expect it!!! You will find all the facilities that you need for relaxing days by the sea including sun loungers, sun umbrellas changing facilities and showers.
For the more energetic, there some water sports centres along the beach, offering sailing, motorboats, jet skis, water skiing and other activities.
